Tribute from Matt Petch:
While it takes most of us years of maturity and no shortage of humbling experience to learn what it truly means to be a decent and kind person; this was not the case with Jeff. It was inherent for him. Rather tragically, he epitomized the phrase “the good die young”. Because that’s what he was - a truly decent and good person through and through. What I remember most about him was his resilience in the face of adversity. Some may remember that he was born partially deaf. As a result, he had to take speech tutoring as a kid to address his lisp. I know he was self conscious about it but for whatever reason it never really registered with me as a prevalent characteristic. There were too many others that overshadowed it. He was a really funny guy and a fiercely loyal friend. He could also run like the wind. Absolutely one of the fastest kids I’d ever seen and I was envious of his speed through every school we attended together. I still think of him often and all the good the world lost in him when he passed.
